Vivid Journey

When I stumbled on the reference image for this painting I was struck by the dynamic shapes of the sandstone it depicts. Most of my other paintings take a more "zoomed out" view of the canyons they depict, and that creates its own sense of majesty. This image, so focused in on a dense and complex set of formations, felt like it needed a larger canvas to shine. 

This is the largest painting I've made to date. I hope it invites you on a journey as engaging as mine was while painting it.
